What is football squares?
Football squares (also called a box pool, squares pool, or just boxes) is the easiest football game ever invented. You do not need to know a single player's name. You do not need to predict anything. You claim a square on a grid, numbers get drawn, and then you cheer for score digits like a lunatic for three hours.
The grid
A squares board is a 10x10 grid, 100 squares total, laid over one real football game. One team gets the columns, the other gets the rows. Before kickoff, players claim squares. When the board is full, each row and each column is assigned a random digit from 0 to 9. Your square now represents one digit for each team.
How you win
At the end of each quarter, take the last digit of each team's score. The square where those two digits meet wins the quarter. If the score is 17 to 14 at halftime, the square matching 7 and 4 wins. That is the whole game. Four quarters, four winners (many groups weight the final score higher).
Why people love it
Squares turns every scoring play into an event for everyone in the room, not just fans of the teams playing. A meaningless field goal in a blowout suddenly matters a lot to whoever holds the right digits. It is why squares owns Super Bowl parties: the game stays interesting even when the football does not.
The catch (and the fix)
The traditional pain is running it: a paper grid someone has to photograph and text around, a host doing digit math at the end of every quarter, and arguments about who actually had that square. Boxpick fixes all of that: friends claim squares from a link, numbers are drawn with an animation everyone watches, and the winning square lights up automatically from the live score.
What is football squares?
Football squares is a party game played on a 10x10 grid laid over a real football game. Each square matches one digit for each team. At the end of each quarter, the square matching the last digit of each team's score wins that quarter.
Do you need to know football to play squares?
No. Squares is pure luck once the numbers are drawn, which is exactly why it works at parties. Your grandma has the same chance as the guy who watches film all week.
How many people can play football squares?
A full 10x10 board has 100 squares, but any number of people can play because one person can take multiple squares. Ten friends taking ten squares each fills a board just as well as a hundred people taking one.
When are squares numbers drawn?
Numbers are drawn after the board is full, so nobody can aim for the good digits. Each row and column gets a random digit from 0 to 9, one set for each team.
