How to collect money for football squares without chasing anyone
Every squares host has the same problem, and it is not the football. It is the three people who claimed squares, said "I'll Venmo you," and did not. Here is the system that keeps a pool from turning into a collections job, plus how Boxpick tracks it without ever getting between you and the money.
Say it once, in the first message
Three things go in the message that shares the board: the price per square, how to pay (pick one app and name it), and the deadline. For example: "$10 a square, Venmo me when you claim, unpaid squares clear Saturday night." Most non-payment is people who never saw the terms.
Pay when you pick
The strongest rule in squares: a square is yours when it is paid for. Ask people to pay as they claim, and treat unpaid squares as reservations that expire. Set a clear-out time a day before the draw, remind once, then open unpaid squares back up. Nobody argues with a rule they read on day one.
Track it per person, not per square
Money is easiest to track by person: Pete has six squares and has paid for four. Boxpick works exactly that way. Tap a player, record how many squares they have paid for, and their row shows Paid, Owes More with the dollar amount, or Unpaid. Handling the usual cases
- Paid before picking. Record the payment first. Pete hands you cash for five squares; enter five, and his row stays green while he claims up to five. If he grabs a sixth, he flips to Owes More automatically.
- Cash from someone without a phone. Add them by name, pick their squares for them, mark them paid. Done.
- Someone wants more squares late. Fine, until the draw. After the numbers are drawn the board locks, which protects everyone.
- Someone never pays. Before the draw, open their menu, clear their squares, and let others claim them. Boxpick keeps a private note per player, handy for "said he would pay Friday."
Paying out

Why the app stays out of the money
Boxpick never collects entry fees, holds a pot, or transfers winnings. That is a deliberate line: an app that moves the money is running something very different from a party game, and it would change what your pool is.
